A Beginner’s Guide To Falconry
This 1-day course is aimed at those who are considering entering the wonderful world of falconry or would just like to know more about it. It is aimed at those with little or no knowledge of keeping and flying birds of prey but would like to find out more about what it entails. The course is full of tips and hints to help you make informed decisions before taking things further.
Falconry Course Objective
At the end of this informal falconry course you will have a basic understanding of the commitment in time and costs, risks and pleasures of owning your own bird of prey.
Falconry Course Syllabus
Morning Session: 10am – 12:30pm
- Introduction to raptor species: Falcons, Hawks and Owls
- Choice of bird
- Housing Requirements
- Food and Food Preparation
- Health of your bird
- Essential Falconry Equipment
- Training a new bird
- Getting your own bird
- Where to fly?
Afternoon Session (Practical): 1pm – 4pm
- Handling a bird of prey
- Fly a Hawk in a woodland setting
- Lure swinging practical and Falcon flying demonstration
- Feedback and Q&A
